How to Survive a 1-Star Review Attack, From a Company Who Had It Happen to Them
It’s not every day that a performance marketing agency like ourselves gets hit with a 1-star review claiming we had served the reviewer the wrong order, and that their food was cold.
And yet, here we are.

This review popped up on our Google Business Profile at the same time as a dozen other 1-star reviews, and we immediately recognized it as a scam, even before one of the reviews gave the game away:

But this problem certainly isn’t unique to us.
Just this week a string of 1-star review attacks happened in our back yard. More than 9 restaurants in the Philadelphia area–all independently owned–were hit with similar 1-star review attacks. 30 to 40 1-star reviews arrived in a matter of hours, all from accounts with no other reviews, personal details, or real photos on their accounts.
Our solution started with acting quickly.
Using our playbook for dealing with scam reviews, we had them all taken down within 24 hours. Now, we’re sharing how we did it so that anyone affected by these scams can do the same.
